Our own shared space

In the tribal village of huts and dwellings shared spaces were provided so that social interaction on a regular and sustained basis was made. The members impart their gained knowledge, their fears and aspirations in these forums that eventually enhanced their social identity.

The general view that our community is strong wherever it has taken roots is true. Our people, tenacious and ambitious integrate easily with other cultures. Intermarriages are not uncommon and the dilution of our national character through these unions is limited by the over zealous influence of our elders who had instilled in us our proud and humble origins. Likewise, nothing is more sacred than loving and practicing ones national language and the rich culture associated with it.

Art from the Heart

True to form, Plaza Filipino has delivered the best ever event yet in its history equal if not greater than the Grand Fiesta it staged in its maiden year 2004. In conjunction with 1944 Art Gallery, major sponsors Nuskin, Fusion and IRemit, the lobby of the Grand Ballroom of Bankstown Sports Club was transformed into an impromptu Arts Gallery last Saturday 11 February 2012.

With four artists and a total of 60 art works between them, Plaza Filipino’s Art from the Heart event showcased a kaleidoscope masterpiece of arts from novice artist Gwen Apalisok, self-taught artist Jun Velasco to seasoned mother-and-son duo artists Daisy Ann Cumming and Dennis Gonzalez Monte gave everyone a feast to behold. For those who braved the unusual weather that was threatening to dampen the occasion, they were not disappointed.

Have art, will travel!

The easiest way to a man’s Art is through his stomach”. A satisfied and full belly lingers on art appreciation which is the highest of all material needs when everything in life; education, wealth or prestige has been achieved. History without art is impossible!

Plaza Filipino continues to build bridges to reach out to the Filipino Australian community with its latest fund raising activity for 2011, the Art for a Cause drive. Plaza Filipino realized that the community will be better served by giving them value for money’s worth every time a knock is heard on their doors. Given that a labors’ day is difficult to part with, we have made currency a joy to exchange, with our Plaza Filipino colourful arts commissioned from a seasoned artist whose work we are proud to be associated with.
